Radical Acceptance (Monument to the Misfortune of Here) was a volumetric installation made of synthetic leather, wooden structure and different fillings that virtually crossed the façade of the Matucana 100 Cultural Center (Santiago, Chile). In these materials and about 3m high each, the Chonchón and the Piuchén were represented, both beings from the mythology of the Central Zone and Chiloé, respectively. On the internal side of the gallery the pieces were falling to the ground from the virtual portal, a connector between the interior and the exterior, while on the outside the work appears more open and willing to participate.

The piece is a monument to adversity and our fortitude to overcome it. Both the Chonchón and the Pinchén are demonic characters, who look for people to announce bad omens.

When thinking about the possible use of the outdoor space of the gallery for the installation of the work, where highly crowded events take place, dancing and celebrating around these two characters gives a ritual character to the piece. At the same time, the internal side of the piece is more introspective. The piece falls to the ground, without courage, but still forming part of the exhibition, even though it is not its natural place.

Previews works of the same research: “Facts and Superstitions: Escape from Chonchon” (2018) and the other “Letter to Chile” (2020). The first is a short film in which I run from Chonchón in a time of bad news and the second is a letter of friendship and farewell to Chile.

The work was part of the collective exhibition «Far, very Far», curated by Ignacio Szmulevicz.
