Asgard Bridge is a short film (work in progress, 15 minutes aprox.) and a video installation (exhibited at the Kusthalle Baselland. 2026) influenced by conversations I had during my time on the Falkor (Too), a scientific research vessel that, on its last mission in late 2025, was looking for the Asgard Archaea on the seabed off the coast of Uruguay. As I understand it, this is a microbe that could reveal the nature of evolution from the first simple living beings to the manifestations of complete life, like ourselves. The scientists explained the premise of their research to me in different ways, until I began to associate the name “Asgard” with the Bifrost bridge, the connection between two worlds in Norse legends, and with the bridge between species they continue to search for. In my own research and after what they shared with me, The Centennial Bridge in Río Negro (Uruguay) appeared as an image, and I didn’t know at the time whether it was still standing or not. In any case, or perhaps even more so, I partially reconstructed it, despite not having any certainty. It seemed appropriate, since scientists won’t have the answers for a long time either.
Therefore, while they await answers regarding the findings of the campaign, I proposed staging the symbolic discovery of the bridge representing the search, which rises from the seabed, and we celebrated its appearance in Uruguayan waters. In the short term, I think it’s a good idea.
I identify with their search, even though I understand it in a different way. I learned in my own way, and the audiovisual material I gathered during the campaign will be used to create a non-fiction documentary in honor of my fellow adventurers. In the end, we are all searching.
