Temple of Fire (2025)

The Fennel Communis could be considered a symbol of the ambivalent nature of knowledge: as it fuels and preserves fire, it also has the ability to poison those who don’t know how to handle it, and instead of using it as a carrier of knowledge, they simply die upon consuming it.

Prometheus knew how to use it. And since he stole and brought us fire from the gods, we will be eternally grateful, but what? Not grateful enough to build a temple in his name or honour? Also: how and where would this hypothetical temple be located? The «how» refers to the form it would take and what the ceremonies there would be like. Temple of Fire (aka Prometemple) is a proposal for a ceremonial site around fire. It takes place outdoors, in a context of cultural exchange, as, in this case, is the intersection between the FHNW and the HEK.

And how is was activated? By serving as a grill and illuminating us. Two columns illuminate the site with representations of fire, and a third column served as a barbecue; fundamental and constant event in human development. When you learn how to make fire, to make embers, you want to share it. The same is with knowledge. And since we all know different ways and techniques of making fire, the Temple of Fire is an open space for community use. Prometheus would have wanted it that way.

At the end of this «trial period,» the temple will be completely consumed by flames, with the intention of re-emerging in a new location.

La Férula Communis podría considerarse como un símbolo de la naturaleza ambivalente del conocimiento: así como es combustible y preserva el fuego, también tiene la capacidad de envenenar a quienes no saben manejarlo, y en lugar de usarlo como portador de conocimiento simplemente mueren al consumirlo.

Prometeo sabía cómo usarlo. Y como robó y nos trajo el fuego de los dioses, le estaremos eternamente agradecidos, pero ¿qué? ¿No lo suficiente como para construir un templo en su nombre o en su honor? Además: ¿cómo y dónde se ubicaría este hipotético templo? El «cómo» se refiere a la forma que tendría y como serian las ceremonias en dicho lugar.

Templo de Fuego (aka Prometemple) es una propuesta para un lugar de ceremonias en torno al fuego. Se desarrolla al aire libre, en un contexto de intercambio cultural, como, en este caso, es la intersección entre el FHNW y el HEK.

¿Y cómo se activa? Sirviendo como parrilla e iluminándonos. Dos columnas iluminan el lugar con representaciones de fuego, y una tercera columna sirve como barbacoa; evento fundamental y constante en el desarrollo humano. Cuando aprendes a hacer fuego, a hacer brasas, quieres compartirlo. Lo mismo ocurre con el conocimiento. Y como todos conocemos diferentes maneras y técnicas de hacer fuego el Templo de Fuego es un espacio abierto de uso comunitario. Prometeo lo hubiera querido así.

Al final de este «período de prueba», el templo será completamente consumido por las llamas, con la intención de resurgir en un nuevo lugar.
